Dead Ringer

I have a new comic! And look, it’s an ongoing one too! It’s written by me and illustrated by Brendon Lam. There are about five pages up right now and you should definitely check it out/bookmark it/spam everyone everywhere.

Also: I’m currently simplifying my personal website. I’ll be moving my blog somewhere else also. This should be happening sometime soon.

Inflammatory Writ

I got the best Christmas card ever from Chrissi this holiday season. I thought I would share it with you guys/prove that I am actually working on new things. It features the main characters of our story, Lisa and Case. (You can check out the full-size here).

Look at Lisa’s reindeer hair and melt in it’s cuteness!! Chrissi’s working really hard on getting the pages done and I love collaborating with her (and she shouldn’t feel bad about taking her time on it).

Okay, so I mentioned something about flatting the colors on one of my comics in my last post/talking about it incessantly on my Twitter at 5:00 AM. I’m sharing a bit of the flats with you, dear readers:

It’s been repetitive and more than tedious, but it’s fun to see the pages colored, and even awesomer to see them rendered. I’m enjoying the heck out of actually being a part of the art process. I can say that Brendon has been working himself to death on getting pages finished (literally, dudes. It’s gross.)  We’re hoping to have a decent buffer before we start releasing pages and oh-my-god-we’re-almost-there!!

There’s also a few short comics, which will be popping up on here sporadically throughout 2010! I‘m hoping know for a fact that it will be a more productive year than that assy lousy 2009.

I miss writing so much, you guys. The past two weeks have been all about comic coloring and looking over lineart–and, you know, the holiday-themed stuff–and I haven’t been able to write very much. I actually feel gross if I don’t write everyday (I think it’s the reason that this runny nose has been sticking around longer than usual.)

I’m all caught up on flatting right now, so hopefully I can get a few pages in today before my brain decides to shut off.

I don’t think I’ll be posting anything until next year, so HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYBODY!

My maudlin career

I’ve been up to things. I hate being vague, but vague is what you’ll  be getting for a little while longer. I mentioned more comic projects in the last posts and they are really happening.

The first is a big one. I can assure you the following: there are a few finished pages, even more pages penciled, some promotional stuff that should see the light of day soon, and there’s even a cover! It’s the largest project I’ve ever worked on and I’m having the time of my life/stressed the heck out.

I’m also working on a slice-of-life/romance-y-ish short with a very lovely lady. I had so much fun writing it and her character sketches and thumbnails have been amazing.

And- AND- if things go well, I might be writing a second story for one of the comics I’ve done before. (Over in the ‘comics’ section). I’ll be outright and say it’s not going to be another fan comic. That cuts the odds down to fifty-fifty, people!

I will–at the very least–have two comics available for consumption in 2010. I’m going to set my goal there. If I exceed it, I will make an effort to high-five every person I see for all of 2011.

It’s been… well… frustrating at times. But fun. Comics are what I want to do and I’m loving every minute of it. Even the parts with the soul crushing depression.

I mentioned sharpening my lettering skills in the last post. I’ve kept up with it and I even don’t-completely-hate the few pages I’ve finished! I’m also flatting stuff, which is super tedious and hurts my brain like crazy. I can write multiple character arcs that connect and interlock with each other, cumulating in a shocking twist, but I can’t lasso tool and fill basic colors without having to take twenty Tylenol tablets. (Also, I can’t do that first part.)

I love you so much comic book colorists of the world! (I’m talking ’bout you Christina Strain.)

Oh, and I want to thank everyone who has e-mailed me in the last few months. It means a lot to me and I appreciate the heck out of it.

Hopefully I’ll have something to tease you with next post. At the very least a few Doctor Who fanfics (10th Doctor, Totoro as companion).

Losing my edge

Previously on this website:

I changed hosts, lost all previous posts and created a uniform template for the comics. It was an exciting and scary time for all (three of you).

Now:

I’m working on more content. None of this ARTICLES business. I’m working on serious things, like comics. (It’s on.) CHARACTER SKETCHES have been sketched and my lettering skills are being sharpened in anticipation of these vague projects. (REAL. TALK. The lettering will astonish you.)

Seriously though. Expect actual comics by me in the upcoming months.

(Also: Expect another post explaining why they aren’t real a little later.)
